Each one of Chuma Maweni’s award-winning Imbizo Stools is completely unique in shape, colour and patterning. Their striking silhouettes are adorned with precisely ridged bands, hand-carved textures and geometric incisions – a tribute to ceramicist Chuma’s love of line and meticulous craftsmanship. A master of hand-thrown ceramics, his distinctive approach is a contemporary evolution of Nguni ceramics, using dark clay, metallic glazes and striking silhouettes. His collectible work for Southern Guild is his most ambitious to date, reaching its largest scale in his Imbizo collection of clay furniture, which includes stools, pedestals and tables.
