This coatrack was designed by Charlotte Perriand and Jean Prouvé in response to a call for tenders in 1954 for the furnishing of one hundred and fifty single rooms at the Cité Universitaire in Antony (France), the largest student housing complex in Europe at the time. Concerned with the social dimension of the project, both designers embraced the opportunity to conceive spaces for the next generations, providing students with modern solutions. The design of the coatrack took into account student’s daily habits and needs within their living space but also the proportions of the rooms. The piece is made of red perforated panels assembled with tapped braces to the upper element and its base. This is a very rare example showing overall very good condition.
