Chapel Petrassi's Gaby Coffee Table is tribute to early 20th-century artist Francis Picabia's wife Gabrièle. Handmade in Italy, the tabletop is finished in a custom HPL laminate in a gradient color pattern; the chunky, highly reflective base is finished in polished gold aluminum. The Gaby Coffee Table was the winner of ICFF Studio 2019 and was displayed in New York's Javits Center during NYCxDesign. Measuring 70 x 50 x 45 cm, this design is an open edition made to order.
Based in Paris and Naples, Chapel Petrassi was founded by designers Marie-Charlotte Bassi and Diego Petroso. This contemporary design and production atelier specializes in handcrafted furniture, including special commissions for galleries and bespoke projects for residential and commercial interiors.
The duo met while studying in Rome. Beginning in 2011, they began to travel around Europe for various assignments and artistic residencies, including at the American Academy in Rome in 2014. These experiences inspired their desire to build a project together dedicated to the creation of contemporary furniture that’s defined by a fusion of craftsmanship and artistic expression, with a youthful spirit and a serious attention to detail.
Chapel Petrassi was a finalist for the 2016 AD Design Award in Berlin and received an award from ICFF Studio in New York in 2019. The atelier’s collections have been exhibited at the 15th Venice Architecture Biennale, Helsinki Design Museum, FuoriSalone in Milan, and Galerie Le French Design by VIA in Paris.
