Description

Galleria Antonella Villanova

Betty Woodman’s vases reflect the same ideas developed by the American abstract painters and sculptors of her generation. This piece is a real masterpiece, because it is part of a small production Woodman made between 1993 and 1996 at the Cirva glassworks in Marseille. It embodies her signature vocabulary, playing with the contrasts between transparency and translucency.

Born in Connecticut, Woodman (1930-2018) was an American ceramic artist whose formal inventions introduced new dimensions to a medium that has been limited by traditional forms and techniques. Her work contributed to the expansion of the definition of decorative arts that occurred in the second half of the 20th century.
