This colored porcelain object was created by Anton Alvarez in 2018 using his signature Extruder machine. In the designer’s words: “It is a machine, but it’s almost like a brushstroke.” Due to the nature of its production, this piece is a one-of-a-kind. Alvarez (b. 1980) is a Swedish-Chilean designer who burst onto the international stage in 2014 with his Thread Wrapping Machine, a DIY device that transforms seemingly any solid object into an energetic, polychrome artwork. In recent years, Alvarez’s interest in design systems and processes has led him to experiment with ceramic extrusion techniques.
