“We live in a world that is changing faster than ever. Architecture has evolved at an increasing speed, but today it feels that we are on the verge of a revolution with repetitive natural disasters, increasing disease and wars and old political systems. The 4th of August 2020 Beirut Blast [was] a wakeup call for urban architecture and social change. The time has come to impose and experiment, to push toward a new design framework. Architecture allows us to give shape to our dreams…[It] is an active tool of resilience, combining design, education, and innovation while keeping a central human ecological layer...” —Anastasia Elrouss

Anastasia Elrouss has donated a print, numbered and signed, from her M Vertical Eco-Village project. Aiming for community empowerment through creation of a vertical, sustainable village, M Eco-Village will house diverse green spaces: aquaponics on the roof and agriculture requiring darkness (mushrooms, endives) in the basements. The remaining floor slabs will be planted with high and low green trees as well as edible greens. This continuous layering will create natural shade and cross-ventilation for a bio-diverse, urban pilot project.  Created in collaboration with an NGO and a peri-urban bio-farm, M Eco-Village was inspired by the Lebanese extended family housing culture.

Award-winning architect Anastasia Elrouss holds a degree in architecture from the American University of Beirut where she currently teaches design courses. She first worked in Beirut at Samir Khairallah & Partners (2005-2006) and at Jean Nouvel in Paris (2007). In 2008, she became the head of YTAA and soon after became a founding partner and general manager of the architecture firm (2011-2017). In 2017, she founded her own practice, ANA-Anastasia Elrouss Architects.

A number of Elrouss’s projects have received nominations and awards, including: the Iconic Award 2018, the German Design Awards 2019 and 2020, the Design that Educates Award 2019 and 2020, and the Architizer A+ Awards 2019. A passionate architect and firm advocate for women, Elrouss is also founder and president of Warchée, a Lebanese NGO advocating for international social and gender equality in the workplace, both in Lebanon and abroad.
