Amarist Studio’s Fuego Amigo is a sculptural lamp made of alabaster, a delicate and translucent stone extracted from quarries near the designers’ studio. The work is raw yet functional, menacing yet beautiful. The process of making posed an extraordinary challenge: The designers acquired a real mortar shell from the last century to study the details and reproduce them accurately. The stone was formed accordingly, while also bringing out the natural beauty of the mineral veining. To complete the work, the designers programmed a series of lighting effects, including an explosion of light that ends in a symphony of colors.
Arán Lozano and Clara Campo met as children in a small town in the Pyrinees mountains, surrounded by nature and craftsmanship. They grew up with shared ideas that now form the foundation of their Barcelona-based studio, Amarist. Their evocative and functional work blurs the boundaries between art, design, and craft.
