Aldo Bakker Tonus Sycamore $14,920>

Limited Sycamore Edition 5 of 6 | Numbered & Signed by the Artist. Accompanied by a signed Certificate of Authenticity.

Bakker’s Tonus series belongs to the permanent collections of the Centre Pompidou and the Centre National des Arts Plastiques in Paris, the Vitra Museum, the Zuiderzeemuseum Enkhuizen and the Design Museum of Gent.

The wooden Tonus results from the ongoing collaboration between Aldo Bakker and Dutch woodcrafter, Rutger Graas. This Tonus edition is hand-carved in European oak wood while the piece is still fresh allowing the craftsman’s hand to sculpt its continuous movement. Over years-long drying period, the wood will deform, burst, crack, and close. As a live organism, the strong muscular shape that was initially given to the Tonus stool consequently changes over time. The forever-active shape is emphasized by the cracks of the wood. Both the shape and the material seem to burst out of their initial posture, prolonging the work of the craftsman’s hands that gave birth to it.
